How to read the directory

“Online” means the official publisher offers a public catalog, search, dataset, or publication surface. “By request” means some records may require an agency, archive, or records-office process. “Paid” flags a system with an official fee schedule; it does not imply every action has a charge. Open the agency entry and the official source to confirm current scope.

The directory does not claim that every record held by an agency is public. Federal statutes, court orders, confidentiality rules, and record-specific restrictions can limit release. An agency website can also contain records from multiple components with separate request channels.
